Leadership Workshop Breakout Sessions

Presented by Info-Tech

Managing to Influx of Consumer Mobile Devices

Presented by James Quin, Info-Tech Research Group

Monday April 2, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am in Grand Cypress A

The influx of Personal Unmanaged Devices (PUDs) is inexorable; penetration rates have grown from the low 20%'s in 2009 to the mid 50%'s today and PUDs are predicted to hit ubiquity by as early as 2013 with both entrenched execs at the top and new-hire Millenials at the bottom driving adoption. In the face of this incursion CIOs face the tough choice of disallow and sit tight, or accept and accommodate. For most, this is no choice at all and resistance is futile. This interactive session will explore the issues associated with PUD adoption and will drive attendees to both enlightenment about the issues, and a strategy they can follow to mitigate the risks while maximizing the value of PUD adoption.

Delivering Quality IT

Presented by Ross Armstrong, Info-Tech Research Group

Monday April 2, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am in Grand Cypress B

Over 50% of IT departments are in 'firefighter' mode, a reactive state in which operations are disorganized, service level agreements suffer, and the business is highly dissatisfied with IT. CIOs who face this grim situation often find themselves unable to navigate their way out the chaos because of systemic technology issues, staffing and/or cultural challenges, and a deficit of sound, repeatable processes. This session provides IT leaders with key tactics that can be acted on immediately in order to transition to a stable and controlled IT environment.

Info-Tech's research will show CIOs how to dramatically enhance their situation through an integrated and holistic method that includes root cause analysis, service delivery improvement, implementation of key policies, and the automation of select procedures - all of which can be accomplished without increasing costs or making drastic changes to the IT department. The net result: high levels of IT performance and business satisfaction.

Purchase Optimization

Presented by Sandi Conrad, Info-Tech Research Group

Monday April 2, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am & Tuesday April 3, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am in Grand Cypress C

When it comes to signing contracts, you've got lawyers who are ready to go through the legalese to protect your interests, but are they familiar with the technology you're looking at buying? When it comes to sorting through RFP responses, proposals, or contracts, you've got the technical competence to evaluate capability, but can you truly identify the best deal in and apples to oranges comparison?

Service Agreements, software licensing programs, and IT solution contracts have many components beyond the standard terms and conditions that can lead to technical challenges and budget overruns. Assuming everything works the way it is supposed to, standard contracts may be fine, but when hardware fails, service levels aren't met, or license costs escalate the details make all the difference.

This interactive session will explore the issues associated with IT contracts and provide you with a strategy to mitigate risk, reduce costs, and maximize the value of your IT solutions.

Effectively Managing A/B/C Players

Presented by James Quin, Info-Tech Research Group

Tuesday April 3, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am in Grand Cypress A

Every manager faces the challenges of managing different talent and personality profiles. Most leave performance gains on the table because they don't adjust their management approach to meet individual requirements; too often they treat all employees the same. Managing A, B, and C players according to their needs, motivations, and goals can help managers increase performance, retention, and overall employee engagement. Learn how to identify the most common employee personas, how to tailor management style accordingly, and ultimately how to get the most out of your employees.

Managing Expenses in Turbulent Times

Presented by Ross Armstrong, Info-Tech Research Group

Tuesday April 3, 2012 8:40am - 9:40am n Grand Cypress B

How does a CIO create a "lean and mean" IT infrastructure? Cost reduction is an ongoing concern for IT leaders, and the ability to "do more with less" has reached the point where it is a must-have skill on any CIO's resume. And it's not just a question of simply managing IT costs; the CIO must also maintain a constant state of readiness in order to respond to ever-changing business demands. Since the business situation varies from company to company, IT infrastructure strategies need to go beyond the obvious. With data centers, storage, servers, and networks in the cost-reduction crosshairs, IT leaders must find opportunities to minimize expenditures and still advance the business through technology. By exploring Info-Tech's frameworks for infrastructure expense management and strategic direction, this workshop will engage participants to share success stories in cost-cutting while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
